Jesus’ first followers were convinced He would return and fulfill all things within their lifetimes. And who can blame them? Put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself how you would have understood these words:
- …the end of all things is at hand (1 Pe. 4:7 KJV)
- …the fullness of time was come (Gal.4:4 KJV)
- …the time is fulfilled (Mk. 1:15 KJV)
- …the fulfillment of the ages has come (1 Cor. 10:11)
- …the ends of the world [ages] are come (1 Cor. 10:11 KJV)
- …for these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written my be fulfilled” (Lk. 21:22 KJV)
- I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened (Mt 24:34)
- …the time is short (1 Cor. 7:29)
- …for the world in its present form is passing away (1 Cor. 7:31)
- …in these last days (Heb. 1:2)
- This how we know it is the last hour (1 Jn. 2:18)
- The coming of the Lord is at hand… the Judge is standing at the door (Jas. 5:8,9 NAS)
- The day is at hand (Ro. 13:12 KJV)
- He who is coming will come and will not delay (Heb. 10:37)
- …things which must shortly come to pass (Rev. 1:1, 22:6 KJV)
- Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of prophecy [all of it], and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand (Rev. 1:3; 22:7 KJV)
- Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand (Rev. 22:10 KJV)
